It’s great to recycle your plastic bottles and even better to reduce your consumption of them in the first place, but what about reusing them? Fred has a nifty new ergonomic handle called Twist and Spout design to screw-on to virtually all used water and soda bottles that could be just what Dr.MOZ ordered! Twist and Spout is great for watering your indoor and outdoor plants, feeding the dog, or

just about anywhere your little helpers could use a firm grip on a bottle.

I’d love to see them manufactured with recycled plastic (and without the plastic packaging), but anything that helps families get a few more uses out of those bottles before they are eventually recycled is a great step in the right direction! Does your family have a fun tip for reusing plastic bottles in the home? If so, share it by clicking on the comments bubble above.

If you have multiple kids in your family, chances are good that you’ll end up with a huge pile of Styrofoam after the holidays. Many communities still don’t offer recycling programs for glass and aluminum…let alone Styrofoam. The truth is, Styrofoam (Polystyrene #6) is virtually impossible to recycle due to the high costs involved. According to the California Department of Conservation *, Polystyrene costs approximately $3,000 per ton to recycle. Compare this to the $89 per ton for recycling glass and you now know why no one wants it.

You can’t recycle Styrofoam through most curb-side programs and you don’t want to add it to the local landfill by throwing it away…so what should you do with it? If you are Kevin Kelly, you’ll give it another life by building a massive Styrofoam robot! This could be a great use for it considering that most of your pile will probably come from toy packaging, and it’s probably more entertaining than the actual toys when in robot form.

Of course…building a robot is a lame solution to a serious environmental issue, but it highlights the fact that we’re all pretty stumped with the problem. Do you have a green tip to share about recycling Styrofoam? Lame or not, I’d love to hear it! Click on the comment bubble above to let us know what you do with the evil stuff.
